Happy Renewal!! The 2015-2016 school year ended with a rush of excitement as La Cima Elementary Charter School was renewed for another 5 years by the New York State Education Department. We are thrilled to continue our work with our scholars and families and consider it an honor to serve the Bedford Stuyvesant community into the future.
We also celebrate our new Principal, Nisah Brinson. Principal Brinson is taking the reins as our instructional leader after 6 years at La Cima in a variety of roles. Ms. Brinson first joined the La Cima team in 2011 as a second grade teacher. The following year, she served as the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction for Kindergarten through second grade. The past three years, she has served as an Assistant Principal for grades K-5. We are blessed to have such a thoughtful, poised and joyful leader driving learning at La Cima.
This past year also marked the first ever fifth grade Paris trip. We chaperoned 12 fifth graders to Paris, France as the culminating project to our art partnership with a resident artist. We explored many of the famous tourist spots, like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum and the Palace of Versailles, while engaging in rigorous and relevant activities like a visit to the Memorial de la Shoah (Holocaust Memorial) and a Black Paris tour. Our scholars also did digital artwork with Parisian students and met the US Ambassador to France. It was such a rewarding experience for all of those involved and is something we will do in the future.
With a new charter term ahead of us, the sky is the limit for La Cima. We will keep climbing high to new peaks and look forward to the journey of learning that is ahead for our community of scholars, families and teachers.
