2017-2018 marks La Cima’s tenth year of service to the Bedford-Stuyvesant community and as we usher in a new decade of our existence, we reflect on the lessons of the past while chartering a clear vision for the future.
Our character education continues to be the strength of our school as our scholars and adults model the C.A.R.E. principles daily, while engaging in restorative justice practices that reaffirm our commitment to community, accountability, and reconciliation. We take particular pride in the work of our scholar support and culture teams that have led to a 74% reduction in out-of-school suspensions over the past four years. We believe we are revolutionizing the approach to supporting behavior with a focus on restoration instead of punishment.
Another exciting addition to our community has been the House system. House is a schoolwide incentive program in which everyone is a part of a House and can earn points for their house by demonstrating the C.A.R.E. essentials. The six houses are Onyx, Carnelian, Garnet, Malachite, Amethyst and Lapis Lazuli. Each house has a power and a color. To learn more, please visit our House system page.
As we continue to make steady growth in student achievement, we are still climbing towards reaching our goals. We embrace an attitude of excellence with joy to help get us to the summit. And as we continue the climb, we look forward to what the future has in store for us.
